BREWING

The Holden family are proud to have been brewing traditional Black Country real ales at our Hopden Brewery site for the last 106 years, producing some of, what some would say, are the finest ales that the area has seen.

THE PROCESS

The Brewing process has not changed much over the years, we begin with our very own strain of yeast which has been cared for and protected over the years and provides the unique blueprint for our Award winning Ales. We still use the finest Maris Otter Malts along with both Fuggles and Goldings Hops for our core cask beers and a myriad of new and daring hops in our Monthly Seasonal Beers and of course not forgetting the biggest ingredient of all, our purest of all Black Country water.

TRADITIONAL

Traditional is the word for our Brewery, with a Gravity Mill and open fermentation vessels and a Copper Copper ….there is no better sight or smell when we are making Beer.

Holden’s Brewery has a 36 Barrel brew capacity in our original Copper, that’s 10,368 pints each time we put a brew on! So with our Master Brewing Team in full control we know that every pint that is produced has the award winning finish required to create our Pure Black Country Ales.

Once Brewing is completed and transferred to casks they are then placed into our temperature controlled store where we will cellar, test & sample our ales for 9 days until it is in perfect condition.

EXPANSION

Expansion is of course IS inevitable with success and over the years we have been investing in our future with new Fermenting vessels, conditioning tanks and brewery extensions. We are now looking to increase our brewing capacity due to demand from 50,000 pints of our beer a week to 70,000. That’s over 3 Million Pints of Holden’s Pure Black Country Ales consumed per year…!! That’s not bad for a local Family Brewery started 103 years ago – or at least we like to think so.
